Matter Of Trust is providing a safe, non-toxic, and effective way to participate in the Gulf Spill clean up. Donors from every state in the US, from Canada and beyond are sending in hair, fur and wool clippings as well as nylons and funding for the outer mesh. This fibers and tubing are used to make Booms that can protect beaches and coastal waters.
Boom B Q's (boom making Bar B Q parties) are cropping up all over the Gulf and now in other states as well. The booms will be stored in donated, temporary warehouse spaces all along the Gulf Coast. The local residents are joined by donors from all over, to provide unprecidented support, massive supplies of materials and volunteer hours for the clean up!

Matter of Trust does not condone untrained residents touching the oil! Leave that to the protected HazMat professionals. What we are all orchestrating is an INTERNATIONAL FIBER RECYLING SYSTEM. Hair and Fur is more effective than petroleum fiber based boom materials.
Lines of boom are for beaches, stacks of boom are for between metal wire mesh and rocky barriers and The Army Corps of Engineers is engineering large floating "lobster cages" in which to use these boom at the "Living Edge" of the Gulf Spill. We welcome all innovative suggestions!
No point in using oil based products to clean up an oil spill, when we are throwing away hundreds of thousands of pounds of natural, renewable absorbant fiber each day that can clearly, easily be recycled and used for this purpose.

Hair booms made from donated hair, fur and donated nylons.
We already see green job opportunities developing for collections with the sorted fiber coming in. Ideally we could restimulate the textile felting industries in the US, so that we can easily make hair mats here as well. We welcome all emails and suggestions.
DID YOU KNOW?
Every year, an estimated 706 million gallons of oil enter our planet's oceans: By far the greatest source of spilled oil is households. We can make a difference, according to the Smithsonian Institution and the Environment Protection Agency:
Used Motor Oil - accounts for 363 million gallons in our oceans! 50% of Americans change their own motor oil, but only 1/3 of that oil is collected and recycled. 2/3 are dumped down drains or spilled on driveways and onto streets. One typlcal 5 quart oil change improperly dumped can contanimate millions of gallons of freshwater.
- Routine ship maintenance and washing containers - account for 137 million gallons of oil in our oceans.
- From air pollution - 92 million gallons
- Natural seepage of oil bubbling up from the sea bottom - 62 million gallons
- Large Spill Accidents - 37 million gallons
- Offshore drilling - 15 million gallons
